Say No to Anxiety

In this time of pandemic, chaos and uncertainty, we need to make a deliberate choice to say no to anxiety.

Anxiety leads to worry and worry develops into fear. And fear can paralyze us and keep us from moving forward in life.

Whenever I am tempted to feel anxious, the Holy Spirit would remind of His Word that brings light. Here are some of my favorites.

• I trust the Lord with all my heart and I do not lean on my own understanding. I acknowledge him in all my ways and he makes my path straight. (Proverbs 3: 5-6)
• I will not be anxious about anything but in everything, by prayer and petition, I will present my requests to God and the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
• I cast all my cares on God because he cares for me. (1 Peyer 5:8)
• Though many are my afflictions, my God delivers me out of them all. (Psalm 34:19)
• I choose God’s Word over anxiety because anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but God’s word makes it glad. (Proverbs 12:25)
• I will remain hopeful despite my circumstances because hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. (Proverbs 13:12)
• I refuse to give in to melancholy for a merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones (Proverbs 17:22).
• I give attention to God’s word and incline my ear to his sayings. I will not let them depart from my eyes and I keep them in the midst of my heart for they are life to everyone who finds them, and health to all their flesh. (Proverbs 4:20-22).
• I trust in the Lord and put my confidence in him. For blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water who sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
• Whoever believes in Jesus, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him (John 7:38).

God’s Word is living and active and we can use it like a Sword to fight any temptation to be anxious or fearful.
